What is Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)?

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own joints, causing inflammation, pain, and damage. Unlike osteoarthritis, it can affect multiple joints symmetrically and may also involve other organs.

Common Symptoms:

Persistent joint pain and swelling (especially small joints of hands & feet)

Morning stiffness lasting more than 30 minutes

Warmth and redness around joints

Fatigue, weight loss, and fever in some cases

Risk Factors:

Family history of RA

Women are more commonly affected

Smoking

Middle age (but can occur at any age)

Treatment & Management:

Medications – DMARDs (Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs), steroids, biologics

Lifestyle changes – Balanced diet, avoiding smoking, stress control

Physiotherapy – Maintaining joint flexibility and strength

Surgery – In severe cases, joint replacement

रूमेटॉइड आर्थराइटिस (RA) क्या है?

रूमेटॉइड आर्थराइटिस एक ऑटोइम्यून बीमारी है जिसमें शरीर की प्रतिरक्षा प्रणाली (immune system) अपने ही जोड़ों पर हमला करती है। इससे जोड़ों में सूजन, दर्द और धीरे-धीरे हड्डियों को नुकसान होने लगता है। यह अक्सर दोनों तरफ के जोड़ों को एक साथ प्रभावित करता है और कभी-कभी अन्य अंगों पर भी असर डाल सकता है।

मुख्य लक्षण:

लगातार दर्द और सूजन (विशेषकर हाथ व पैरों के छोटे जोड़ों में)

सुबह उठने पर 30 मिनट से ज्यादा जकड़न

जोड़ों में गर्माहट और लालिमा

थकान, वजन घटना और कभी-कभी बुखार

जोखिम कारक:

परिवार में RA का इतिहास

महिलाओं में अधिक आम

धूम्रपान

मध्य आयु (लेकिन किसी भी उम्र में हो सकता है)

इलाज और प्रबंधन:

दवाइयाँ – DMARDs, स्टेरॉयड, बायोलॉजिक दवाएँ

जीवनशैली में बदलाव – संतुलित आहार, धूम्रपान से परहेज़, तनाव नियंत्रण

फिजियोथेरेपी – जोड़ों की लचक और ताकत बनाए रखना

सर्जरी – गंभीर स्थिति में जोड़ों का प्रत्यारोपण

👉 समय पर इलाज शुरू करने से जोड़ों की विकृति और अपंगता से बचा जा सकता है।
