PULMONARY EMBOLISM

 A pulmonary embolism (PE) is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition where one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked, usually by a blood clot. It often originates from a clot in the deep veins of the legs (deep vein thrombosis or DVT) and travels to the lungs through the bloodstream. This blockage can prevent oxygen from reaching the lung tissue, leading to significant health issues. Key Features of Pulmonary Embolism: Symptoms: Sudden shortness of breath : The most common symptom. Chest pain : Often sharp and may worsen with deep breaths. Cough : Sometimes with bloody or mucus-streaked sputum. Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia) . Lightheadedness or fainting . Sweating and anxiety . Swelling in one or both legs : If caused by DVT.
