🩺 Introduction / परिचय

Moniliasis, also known as Candidiasis, is a fungal infection caused by the yeast Candida albicans.
It commonly affects areas like the mouth, throat, genitals, and skin folds, but in severe cases, it can spread to internal organs (systemic candidiasis).

मोनीलायसिस या कैंडिडायसिस एक फंगल संक्रमण है जो कैंडिडा एल्बिकन्स नामक यीस्ट से होता है। यह प्रायः मुंह, गले, जननांगों और त्वचा की सिलवटों में होता है, लेकिन गंभीर स्थिति में यह शरीर के अंदर भी फैल सकता है।

🔍 Causes / कारण

1. Weak immune system (कमज़ोर रोग-प्रतिरोधक क्षमता)

2. Diabetes mellitus (मधुमेह रोगियों में सामान्य)

3. Prolonged antibiotic or steroid use (लंबे समय तक एंटीबायोटिक या स्टेरॉयड का सेवन)

4. Poor hygiene (स्वच्छता की कमी)

5. Wearing tight or wet clothes for long periods (लंबे समय तक गीले या तंग कपड़े पहनना)

6. Hormonal changes during pregnancy or menstruation (गर्भावस्था या माहवारी में हार्मोनल परिवर्तन)

1. Oral Candidiasis (Thrush) – white patches in the mouth and tongue

3. Cutaneous Candidiasis – infection in skin folds like under breasts, groin, or armpits
   त्वचा की सिलवटों में लाल दाने या जलन

4. Systemic Candidiasis – serious infection involving blood and internal organs (seen in ICU or immunocompromised patients)
   गंभीर संक्रमण जो पूरे शरीर में फैल जाता है

1. Clinical examination by physician

2. Microscopic examination (KOH mount) of discharge or scraping

3. Culture test to confirm Candida species

4. Blood tests in suspected systemic infection

डॉक्टर द्वारा जांच, KOH टेस्ट, कल्चर और ब्लड जांच से निदान किया जाता है।

• Antifungal medicines:

  • Topical: Clotrimazole, Miconazole, Nystatin creams or vaginal pessaries

  • Oral: Fluconazole, Itraconazole tablets

• Control underlying causes like diabetes or immunosuppression

• Maintain hygiene and keep affected areas clean and dry

• Avoid unnecessary antibiotics or steroids
