TECHNIQUE FOR INULINE INJECTIONS

 TECHNIQUE FOR INSULINE INJECTIONS

Administering insulin injections properly is crucial for effective diabetes management. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure accurate and safe insulin injection technique:

Materials Needed:

Insulin (vial or pen)

Insulin syringe or pen needle

Alcohol swab

Sharps container

Preparation:

Wash Your Hands: Ensure your hands are clean to prevent infection.

Check the Insulin:

Inspect the insulin for clarity (if using rapid-acting or long-acting) or uniform suspension (if using NPH insulin, which should be gently rolled to mix).

Verify the expiration date and that the insulin has been stored correctly.

Injection Sites:

Common sites include the abdomen, thigh, buttocks, and upper arm. The abdomen is preferred for faster absorption, while the thigh and buttocks are slower.

Injection Steps:

Clean the Injection Site: Use an alcohol swab to clean the skin where you will inject.

Prepare the Insulin:

Vial and Syringe:

Roll the vial (if necessary) and wipe the top with an alcohol swab.

Draw air into the syringe equal to the insulin dose.

Insert the needle into the vial and inject the air.

Turn the vial and syringe upside down and draw the correct dose of insulin.

Check for air bubbles and remove them by tapping the syringe and pushing the plunger slightly.

Insulin Pen:

Attach a new needle to the pen.

Prime the pen by dialing a small dose (usually 2 units) and pressing the plunger until you see a drop of insulin.

Dial the prescribed dose.

Insert the Needle
