type of diabetes

There are different types of diabetes:

  1. Type 1 diabetes: This type occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in your pancreas. People with type 1 diabetes need to take insulin injections daily to survive.

  2. Type 2 diabetes: This type occurs when your body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. It's often associated with lifestyle factors like obesity, lack of physical activity, and poor diet. Type 2 diabetes can sometimes be managed with lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise, but medications or insulin may also be necessary.

  3. Gestational diabetes: This type occurs during pregnancy when the body can't produce enough insulin to meet the extra needs of pregnancy. It usually resolves after childbirth but can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life for both the mother and the child.

  4. Other types: There are also other less common types of diabetes, such as monogenic diabetes and diabetes caused by certain medications or medical conditions.
